How it works
Project deadlines in the real world rarely line up with calendar days. Most teams work Monday to Friday, so a “10-day” sprint might span two full weeks on the calendar once weekends are accounted for. Public holidays add another layer — a deadline set in working days can slip by several calendar days if bank holidays fall in between. For accurate project planning, working days matter more than raw calendar days because they reflect when work actually gets done.
Clockr offers two modes. “Time until deadline” counts down from today (or your project start date) to a fixed deadline, showing calendar days, working days, and a weeks-and-days breakdown. A progress bar appears when your start date is today or in the past, visualising time elapsed versus time remaining. “Calculate finish date” works in the opposite direction — enter a start date and a number of working days, and the tool calculates when the project should be complete.
You can choose to include or exclude weekends, and optionally subtract public holidays using standard UK or US holiday schedules as a guide. Public holiday dates vary by region, employer, and year — some jurisdictions observe substitute days when a holiday falls on a weekend, and not every organisation closes on the same dates. Treat the holiday option as a planning estimate and adjust manually for your local calendar where precision matters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate working days until a deadline?
Select “Time until deadline”, enter your project start date and deadline date, and leave “Exclude weekends” selected. The calculator shows how many working days remain from today to your deadline. Optionally check “Exclude public holidays” and choose UK or US to subtract bank holidays that fall within the range.
What counts as a working day?
By default, a working day is any weekday — Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are excluded unless you switch to “Include weekends”. When public holiday exclusion is enabled, recognised bank holidays for your selected country are also removed from the working day count, even when they fall on a weekday.
How do I find out what date is 30 working days from today?
Switch to “Calculate finish date”, set the start date to today, enter 30 in the working days field, and keep weekends excluded. The result shows the calendar date that is exactly 30 weekdays later, skipping any Saturdays and Sundays along the way. Enable public holiday exclusion if you want bank holidays subtracted too.
Does this calculator exclude public holidays?
Only when you check “Exclude public holidays”. By default the tool counts weekdays only and does not subtract bank holidays. When enabled, it uses standard UK bank holidays or US federal holidays as a guide — including movable dates like Good Friday and Thanksgiving. Regional variations and employer-specific closures are not covered automatically.
How many working days are in a month?
Most months contain between 20 and 23 weekdays, depending on how weekends fall. A 31-day month with five full weekends can have as few as 20 working days, while a month starting on a Friday can have 23. Public holidays reduce the count further.
