How it works

Clockr calculates the time between your anniversary date and today by working through the calendar year by year, month by month, and day by day. Rather than assuming every month has 30 days, the tool accounts for months of different lengths — from 28 or 29 days in February to 31 days in January — and includes leap years, where an extra day is added every four years. The result is a precise breakdown of years, months, and days, plus a total day count.

Certain anniversary years carry special meaning in the traditional wedding gift list. Paper marks the 1st anniversary, wood the 5th, tin or aluminium the 10th, silver the 25th, and gold the 50th. These milestones — 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 years — are widely celebrated because they mark meaningful chapters in a relationship. Clockr highlights when your next anniversary falls on one of these notable years.

The next anniversary countdown finds the upcoming occurrence of your anniversary date on the calendar. If that date has already passed this year, the tool looks ahead to the same day next year — including handling 29 February anniversaries in non-leap years. The number of days shown is the count from today to that next anniversary date.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate how long we've been together?

Enter the date your relationship began, your wedding day, or any other anniversary you want to track in the date field above. Clockr instantly shows how many years, months, and days have passed since that date, along with the total number of days. You can also add an optional label — such as "Wedding" or "First date" — to personalise the result.

What is the traditional gift for each wedding anniversary year?

The traditional wedding anniversary gift list assigns a material to each year. Common milestones include paper (1st), cotton (2nd), leather (3rd), wood (5th), tin or aluminium (10th), crystal (15th), china (20th), silver (25th), pearl (30th), ruby (40th), gold (50th), and diamond (60th). Modern lists sometimes suggest different gifts, but the traditional themes remain popular for cards, parties, and keepsakes.

How many days have we been married?

Enter your wedding date and Clockr displays the total number of days since that date beneath the years, months, and days breakdown. The count includes every calendar day from your wedding day to today, accounting for leap years and months of varying length.

When is our next anniversary?

Once you enter your anniversary date, the results show how many days until your next anniversary and the exact date it falls on. If your anniversary has already passed this calendar year, the tool counts down to the same date next year. For future dates, it shows the countdown until that first anniversary arrives.

What is considered a milestone anniversary?

Milestone anniversaries are typically the 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th, and 50th years, though many couples also celebrate the 15th, 20th, and other round numbers. These years are associated with traditional gift themes — paper, wood, tin, silver, and gold — and are often marked with parties, trips, or special gifts. Clockr highlights when your upcoming anniversary is one of these notable years.

Can I use this for any type of anniversary, not just weddings?

Yes. Enter any meaningful date — a first date, engagement, civil partnership, work anniversary, or friendship milestone — and use the optional label field to describe what you are celebrating. The calculator works the same way regardless of the occasion.
